Graduate School

 We hold screening tests for new students that are impartial and highly transparent through multiple opportunities and methods in accordance with the specialties of each of the established post-graduate courses and fields of study, as well as the ideal human resources they seek to cultivate. The Graduate School accepts those who understand the goals and objectives held up by the university, as well as its traditions. Such women must also strive to actively acquire the knowledge and skills required of their fields of work, who must have advanced expertise, as well as the ability to work independently as researchers with a clear sense of purpose.

Major New Student Acceptance Policy
Japanese Language and Literature Major [Master's Course]
 The goal of this program is to cultivate professionals who can play an active role in society with sophisticated expertise, by refining the basic education acquired as an undergraduate. We accept those who aim to pursue a wide range of practical study with regards to ever deeper technical research into Japanese language and literature, practical research into Japanese language as a school subject in Japan, and Japanese language education.

[Doctor's Course]
 We accept those who have excellent talents and excessive desire to learn, who want to further specialize their education gained in the Master's Course, with regards to not only Japanese language and literature, but Japanese culture as a whole, to work as a researcher and do research activities, gain deep and detailed scholarship and research ability in an advanced way, and/or gain the abilities necessary to pursue a highly specialized occupation.
English Language and Literature Major [Master's Course]
 The goal of this program is to cultivate professionals who can play an active role in society with sophisticated expertise, by refining the basic education acquired as an undergraduate. We accept those who want to contribute to local society as junior and senior high school instructors or instructors for adult lifelong learning, and those who want to be active on the world stage in professions such as translator, simultaneous interpreter, United Nations service, and more.

[Doctor's Course]
 We accept those who have excellent talents and excessive desire to learn, who want to further specialize their education gained in the Master's Course, with regards to not only the English language and Anglo-American literature, but Anglo-American culture as a whole, to work as a researcher and do research activities, gain deep and detailed scholarship and research ability in an advanced way, and/or gain the abilities necessary to pursue a highly specialized occupation.
Education Major [Master's Course]
 The department accepts those who possess the academic abilities that the department is seeking, and who are motivated to actively strive to pursue a high level of specialized knowledge with a clear sense of purpose. Additionally, the department accepts those who are employed in education or childcare, who desire to pursue a high level of practice through study at the graduate school.
Clinical Psychology Major [Master's Course]
 The department accepts those who want to contribute to society in the clinical psychology field at educational, medical, social welfare facilities and more, as a clinical psychotherapist or certified counselor with a high level of specialized knowledge and practical ability in psychology and neighboring fields, in order to engage the various problems of the heart and mind in contemporary society.

Clinical Education Major [Master's Course]
 Accepting those who intend to conduct theoretical, practical, and clinical research with regards to supporting the adaptation and development of people in every life stage from infancy to old age, mainly as a professional offering interpersonal assistance to school instructors, social welfare and other specialized institutions, facilities, hospitals, corporations, administrations, and more in the fields of pedagogy, psychology, and social welfare. We welcome those who want to gain not only a perspective from the practical field, but also acquire general and interdisciplinary specialized knowledge and practical ability in order to continue to apply that ability in the field after graduation.

Major New Student Acceptance Policy
Health and Sports Sciences Major [Master's Course]
 In the Graduate School of Health and Sports Sciences, those who have the desire to learn about health and science in a technical and scientific manner, 1) who are qualified as a national registered dietician, health and exercise practice leader, or health fitness programmer and are conversant in a behavioral science approach in addition to having a high level of medical knowledge about prescribing therapeutic exercise as primary prevention for illnesses that affect a wide range of ages, and secondary prevention for a variety of patient's conditions, 2) who are qualified as health and physical education instructors who want to be able to teach physical education classes, sports events, and school club activities equipped with motor development process and training principles, and a high degree of medical knowledge and ability with relation to prevention of and recovery from sports injuries, backed with professional scientific theory, 3) who are qualified as a type of professional rehabilitation practitioner and want to take the role as a leader in the clinical field or in local society with high problem-solving skills and techniques, in addition to knowledge and ability relating to health, physical strength, and sports training.

Major New Student Acceptance Policy
Food Sciences and Nutrition Major [Master's Course]
 Our goal is to nurture future professionals who can contribute to society by pursuing health through food, and we accept those who 1) are interested in progressing with basic and applied research in order to become a research and development person, a nutrition information person, or other job based on basic and applied research in order to better understand the relationship between food and health, 2) are interested in practicing actively as a national registered dietician in a clinical or social welfare setting, or 3) are interested in conducting research about how dietary education and other group level health promotion activities can be done.

[Doctor's Course]
 We accept those who have excellent talents and excessive desire to learn, who want to further specialize their education gained in the Master's Course, to work as a researcher and do research activities with regards to food and health, gain deep and detailed scholarship and research ability in an advanced way, and/or gain the abilities necessary to pursue a highly specialized occupation.
Human Environmental Sciences Major [Master's Course]
 The human environment is considered a combination of the clothing environment, living environment, and urban spaces, and the history, culture, and information related to this are considered essential factors. Those who intend to work in a corporation related to the fields of clothing, living, and information, to work as a living environment analyst or advisor, as a researcher, or as a university or secondary educator, who are extremely talented and are interested in pursuing the way the human lifestyle ought to be, and the formulation of comfortable and safe environment design through surveys and analysis of human interaction and behavior, the relationship between clothing, living environment, urban space, and humans, and the relationship between humans and tools and lifestyle materials will be accepted.

[Doctor's Course]
 We accept those who have excellent talents and excessive desire to learn, who want to further specialize their education gained in the Master's Course, to work as a researcher and do research activities with regards to human environmental sciences, gain deep and detailed scholarship and research ability in an advanced way, and/or gain the abilities necessary to pursue a highly specialized occupation.
Architecture Major [Master's Course]
 The department accepts those who aspire to become architects and experts related to architecture who can succeed both in Japan and internationally. Those who must understand architecture and urban spaces in a comprehensive manner from the perspectives of strength, utility, and aesthetics, which are the three main elements of architecture, as well as from the broader perspectives of truth, virtue, and aesthetics. This is also required in order for them to have the necessary basic knowledge and ability of a graduate of the undergraduate level Department of Architecture course to integrate these perspectives together to create truly human living environments.

[Doctor's Course]
 Those who are full of ambition towards learning, with excellent talents, have a master's course graduate level of knowledge and ability, and want to gain an increasingly high level and broad academic attainment as an architect or researcher will be accepted.

Major New Student Acceptance Policy
Pharmacy Major [Doctor's Course]
 Those who are full of ambition towards learning, with excellent talents, who want to contribute to the development of medicine as a researcher at a university or research facility or as a pharmacist scientist in a medical team, in advanced medicine, tacking clinical themes in fields such as individualized medicine, drug therapy, chemotherapy, infectious disease therapy, drug efficacy, toxicity evaluation, regulatory science, community pharmacy, Chinese herbal medicine, and more, will be accepted.
Pharmaceutical Sciences Major [Master's Course]
 Those who are interested in working for pharmaceutical, chemical, or food product companies, or in experimental facilities as technicians, researchers, and science instructors, who want to cover a variety of issues in basic pharmaceutical science, applied pharmaceutical science, and clinical pharmaceutical science in order to gain a scientific perspective and basic research skills will be accepted.

[Doctor's Course]
 Those with an interest in becoming professionals or researchers with highly specialized knowledge and skills related to discovery and development of medicines, safe use of medicine, and more, based on the knowledge and skills fostered in the master's course in fields such as clinical pharmaceutical science, life-based pharmaceutical science, and drug discovery-based pharmaceutical science will be accepted.

Major New Student Acceptance Policy
Nursing Science Major [Master's Course]
 Those as follows who accept the graduate school's educational goals and aims are invited to apply.
(1) Those who understand the principles of the university and the educational goals and aims of the graduate school, with a social and international perspective and the intent to contribute to the development of nursing science and the improved health and welfare of the people.
(2) Those who can express challenges and personal awareness of issues based on personal experience.
(3) Those who can discover challenges through practice, work towards improvement and development, and investigate issues with a research-based perspective.
(4) Those who can clearly express their own opinions and listen to the opinions of others, in order to develop a flexible way of thinking.
(5) Those who are interested in the health of local residents, and who have a desire to contribute to society as a publlic health nurse, clarifying and resolving health issues through practical implementation.

Department New Student Acceptance Policy
Department of Japanese Language and Literature  The Department accepts applicants with a profound interest in the Japanese language, literature, and culture who will capitalize on the specialized knowledge and ability to think logically which they acquire from studying these subjects. Such applicants must also be: (1) Applicants who are motivated to contribute to society as professionals with strong communication abilities; and (2) Applicants who will take up employment as middle school Japanese language teachers, high school Japanese language or calligraphy teachers, school library teacher-librarians, Japanese language teachers in Japan or overseas, librarians at libraries, or museum curators, and will play an active role in their respective fields to contribute to the development of society.
Department of English  The Department accepts applicants who will strive to acquire the knowledge and English proficiency to succeed in the international community and play an active role in society.
Department of Education  The Department accepts applicants who possess the basic academic abilities, and who are motivated to actively strive to pursue knowledge with a clear sense of purpose. The Department accepts applicants who it envisions will be able to acquire a Type 1 elementary school teacher license, Type 1 kindergarten teacher license, Type 1 special-needs school teacher license, or nursery school teacher qualifications according to their abilities, and who will be able to improve their talents and abilities enough within four years to be able to succeed in fields that require such licenses and qualifications.
Department of Psychology and Social Welfare  The Department accepts applicants who are highly motivated to aid other people, and who will strive to contribute to the achievement of an society by becoming a certified psychologist, social welfare worker / mental health social welfare worker, high school teacher (welfare), or welfare recreation worker and improving the talents and abilities they will need for these professions.

Department of Health and Sports Sciences  With “People who can lead in the ‘Sports for All' era” as its basic admission policy, the Department encourages applicants with a desire to learn about health and sports in a scientific and specialized manner. This includes: (1) Applicants who strive to substantially contribute to health and sports in settings for offering exercise instruction in education and lifelong learning; (2) Applicants who strive to contribute to improving people's competitive abilities through outstanding coaching and training in sports instruction and sports settings for competitive sports; and (3) Applicants who strive to contribute to supporting health through sports, exercise, and physical activity at facility / program management settings at local government, corporate, or private sports facilities and exercise and fitness instruction settings such as medical / welfare facilities.

Department New Student Acceptance Policy
Department of Human Environmental Sciences  This Department accepts applicants who combine ways of thinking from humanities fields, such as culture and history, and scientific fields such as material properties, with respect to the things and circumstances in everyday life. In addition, they must also be: (1) Applicants who want to study design and lifestyle possibilities in order to create richer and more appealing environments from the dual perspectives of living culture and design; (2) Applicants who aspire to refine their expert knowledge, skills, and sensibilities related to apparel while extensively learning about living environments; and (3) Applicants who want to learn about architecture from a multilateral perspective, including everything from residential / public architecture and commercial spaces to modalities for cities.
Department of Food Sciences and Nutrition  The Department accepts applicants with strong basic academic abilities and motivation who want to contribute to preventing lifestyle-related diseases and promote health by serving as managerial dietitians furnished with advanced problem-solving capabilities and practical abilities.
Department of Informatics and Mediology  The Department is seeking talented individuals who follow our “Founding Spirit” and the Department's goals, and who are motivated to contribute to the sound development of the information society by harnessing their knowledge of and skills with information and multimedia.
 More specifically, we welcome applicants who harbor the following objectives.
  • Those who want to acquire the ability to determine the true value of information so that they are not at the mercy of an overabundance of said information.
  • Those who want to gain profound insight into daily life and learn ways of mastering a diverse array of media.
  • Those who want to achieve a creative life by valuing their own individuality.
  • Those who want to acquire an extensive education and rich sensibilities in order to contribute to society.
 The Department does not just offer classes in the form of lectures, but also numerous classes that are based primarily around mutual discussion and cooperation between teachers and students, as well as between students themselves. We challenge students to apply their knowledge and think for themselves in all sorts of situations. Accordingly, it is our hope that students will take as broad a range of courses as possible prior to their matriculation without being beholden to restricting frameworks such as the humanities and sciences, in order to cultivate a reliable foundation of basic knowledge. Such courses should include the Japanese and English languages, geography and history, and civics, as well as math, physics, chemistry, and biology. This basic knowledge is important in order for students to understand the subject matter in courses dealing with specialized fields following their matriculation.
 Students do not necessarily need to have their future completely mapped out. It is enough that they take a good look at and think about themselves, then plan their own lives out during their four years of learning here. But in order to be able to do that, they must have a clear sense of purpose regarding what they should do after they matriculate. We are seeking applicants who will not just attend class, but who will also adopt a proactive approach of treating every opportunity as a learning opportunity and actively taking part in a variety of extracurricular activities.
Department of Architecture  The Department accepts applicants who aspire to become architects and experts related to architecture who can succeed both in Japan and internationally. Such applicants must possess basic academic ability at the high school-graduate level that will be needed to understand architecture and urban spaces in a comprehensive manner from the perspectives of strength, utility, and aesthetics, which are the three main elements of architecture, as well as from the broader perspectives of truth, virtue, and aesthetics. This is also required in order for them to acquire the basic knowledge and capabilities to integrate these perspectives together to create truly human living environments. More specifically, prior to their matriculation here we require that students study a wide range of subjects that not only includes math (Math I, Math II, Math III, Math A, and sequences and vectors from Math B) and science (Foundational Physics and Physics), but also the Japanese and English languages, geography and history, civics, and more.

Department of Performing Arts  The Department accepts passionate and motivated applicants who think about performances that give people with a deep and lasting impression based on a rich array of performing techniques, and who aspire to attain a high level of artistry. Such applicants must also strive to refine their sensibilities, craft, and intellect, as well as to acquire the ability to perform in a way that resonates with people emotionally.
Department of Applied Music  The Department accepts applicants who want to learn about music not from the aspect of performing it, but rather from the perspective of using and applying music. It accepts passionate and motivated applicants who want to apply music for its positive psychological effects on handicapped, elderly, and sick and injured people as seen with music therapy and to create meaning in life, as well as those who strive to acquire effective skills and planning and management abilities for musical instruction and musical activities in communities and society in such areas as art management, lifelong learning, social education, and recreation.

Department of Pharmacy(6-year course)  The Department accepts applicants who understand that pharmacists must have excellent medical ethics and clinical capabilities, and be able to act independently on the basis of scientific facts. Such applicants must also work to acquire an extensive education and knowledge, skills, and attitudes as pharmacists, and have the passion and capabilities to strive to contribute to the improvement and development of the field of pharmacology.
Department of Health and Bio-Pharmaceutical Sciences(4-year course)  The Department accepts applicants equipped with the ability to think scientifically and solve problems, and who understand how to foster human resources that will strive to contribute to society. Such applicants must also work to acquire an extensive education and pharmacological knowledge, skills, and attitudes, and have the passion and capabilities to strive to contribute to health and welfare.

Department of Nursing  The Department is seeking applicants who understand the goals and objectives (“Founding Spirit”) held up by the university, as well as its traditions. Such applicants must also strive to actively acquire the knowledge and skills required of nurses, who must have advanced expertise, as well as the ability to work independently as health care professionals with a clear sense of purpose.

 The Department wants: 1. Applicants who take an interest in people's lifestyles, lives, and health, and who would like to contribute to the health, medical, or welfare sectors in the future as nurses. 2. Applicants who can take the initiative to convey their own opinions while respecting the feelings and thinking of others, and who can build interpersonal relations with people in a variety of other fields. 3. Applicants who can study in an independent and proactive manner, are motivated to absorb a wide range of knowledge, think deeply based on expert knowledge, and will continuously go about undertaking self-improvement. 4. Department of Japanese Language  The Department accepts applicants who aspire to gain the ability to communicate through Japanese underpinned by a deep education related to Japanese language, literature, and culture, who will capitalize on the specialized knowledge and ability to think logically, which they acquire from studying these subjects, by contributing to society as professionals. It also accepts applicants who will take up employment as middle school Japanese language teachers, librarians at libraries, or the like who will play an active role in their respective fields to contribute to the development of society.
Department of Careers in English Communication  The Department accepts applicants who will strive to acquire the knowledge and English proficiency to succeed in the international community and play an active role in society.
Department of Early Childhood Education  The Department accepts applicants who possess the basic academic abilities that the Department is seeking, and who are motivated to actively strive to pursue knowledge with a clear sense of purpose. The Department accepts applicants who it envisions will be able to acquire a Type 2 kindergarten teacher license or nursery school teacher qualifications according to their abilities, and who will be able to improve their talents and abilities enough within two years to be able to succeed in fields that require such licenses and qualifications.
Department of Psychology and Human Relations  The Department accepts applicants who are highly motivated to get involved with people, and who will study psychology in a systematic manner. Such applicants must strive to play an active role in society by creating their future selves in a proactive manner, which includes discovering their own uniqueness, supporting family creation, applying themselves to society, and participating in their communities.
Department of Health and Sports  With “People who can lead in the ‘Sports for All' era” as its basic admission policy, the Department is seeking applicants with a desire to learn about health and sports in a scientific and specialized manner. Department of Dietary Life and Food Sciences  The Department accepts applicants who want to contribute to preventing lifestyle-related diseases and promote health by serving as practical dietitians who support healthy and fulfilling dietary habits.
Department of Fashion and Living Design (Apparel Design Course, Interior Design Course)  In terms of clothing and housing are two of the most important things near and dear to people's lives, and we accept: (1) Applicants who strive to learn specialized knowledge and skills related to apparel design and quality / performance; and (2) Applicants who strive to learn about housing and interiors, as well as their environments and design.
